What Crown will King Charles III wear for his coronation? Will it be the Imperial/Tudor (King's) crown?
Because St. Edward's Crown (Queen's Crown), the one used by Queen Elizabeth II is for female monarchs isn't it? If it is changed then will all societies and Crown entities (e.g. The Australian Federal and State Police Forces/Army/Navy/RAAF etc) have to change their insignia and emblems?
The Imperial Crown from Tudor times was "crushed" and destroyed after the revolution when Charles I was executed.
Prince Charles (and he won necessarily be Charles III - he can choose any of his middle names or any other name for that matter) will most probably wear St. Edward's Crown as it is the Monarchs crown (worn by the kings before the Queen Elizabeth - including her father). It was originally made for King Charles II as a replacement for the Imperial Crown and has Been Worn by every monarch since. - It is St. Edwards Crown that is used to "Crown" the monarch during their coronation
BUT the monarch does not just wear one crown.
So he will also wear the Imperial State Crown - and it is usually this crown that is worn when the monarch leaves Westminster Abbey after their coronation
When we had a king each individual Queen (Consort) would have their own crown made - which
would go unused after their death. - The Queen Mother's crown included the Kohinoor diamond
In these credit crunch times when the royal family are trying not to be extravagant its unlikely that Camilla will have the same privileged and will have to make do with one of the many old crowns and tiaras in the Royal Collection
Interesting Fact- the British Crown Jewels Contain tens of thousands of diamonds (over 2800 in the Imperial State Crown Alone) including the largest and the 2nd largest cut diamond, the most expensive diamond in the world
